Rally

Rally provides an opportunity to enhance basic obedience skills in a less formal setting, and prepares you and your dog for Rally competition, if that is your goal. Courses follow consecutive numbered signs instructing the performance of a particular skill. Handlers are encouraged to frequently communicate with and praise their dogs. Most of all, this class should be fun for both of you. For dogs 6 months and older.

Topics include:

Beginning Rally:

  • Learn the signs used in Rally (Beginning Rally)
  • Practice course navigation
  • Learn rules for competition
  • All exercises are on lea.

Intermediate & Advanced Rally:

  • Prepares you for different levels of competition Rally trials (Novice, Advanced, and Excellent).
  • Additional signs for higher levels are introduced
  • Jumps (high, broad, and bar)
  • Advanced and Excellent are performed off lead, however practice is often on lead.

Equipment needed:

  • 6-foot leash (leather or fabric, comfortable in your hand)
  • An appropriate collar for training purposes
  • If using treats, a pocket with small, soft, tasty treats

Prerequisites:

Beginning Rally: Dogs should able to participate safely in a class situation around people and dogs. Handler/dog team must have completed Beginning Obedience or can demonstrate the dog’s ability to walk on a loose lead, sit, down, come, and stay on lead. Exceptions allowed with instructor’s approval.

Intermediate & Advanced Rally: Beginning (Novice) Rally skills are required.
